moved into the neighborhood...

Over one year ago, my husband and I decided to move into the city of Compton. Along with an amazing group of people dedicated to seeking and serving Jesus in this city, we took our newly-wedded selves and moved into a barred up apartment on Kay Street. This past year has been full of surprises, learning moments, and lots of joy. We moved in to find graffiti on our walls, waking up to fights in the middle of the night, and confronting strangers who were mysteriously trying to enter our car. We moved in to learn how to be a minority. We moved in to learn how to build relationships despite barriers of culture and language. We     moved in to discover some beautiful community all around us.

[Koinonia] is the Greek word for community. It is about sharing, creating intimacy, and becoming interlinked with those around us. Throughout our year of living here, we have discovered some amazing things about the city we live in. We have also learned a lot about the struggles and triumphs in the process of becoming good neighbors. This blog exists to share those things-- the things that we see and that things that we learn as we continue to discover and create community, [Koinonia]Compton.
